Library Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19; Risk of Explosure Low

An employee at the Library Center tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, Sept. 21, but had been wearing a face mask while working and had minimal interaction with other staff and library patrons, Springfield-Greene County Library officials said Tuesday.

The employee last worked at the library on Friday, Sept. 18, developed symptoms on Sunday, Sept. 20 and was tested on Monday. The individual is isolating and under self-care at home. No coworkers have reported symptoms. They were advised on appropriate protocol based on the amount of contact they had, and some have elected to quarantine for a time.

Along with routine cleaning, the employee’s department underwent additional sanitizing. Due to the low risk of exposure to others, there are no plans to close that department or the library building.

All staff at the Library Center and the nine other library branches are required to wear masks, observe social distancing, and record their temperatures when coming to work. All patrons visiting the libraries are required to wear masks unless exempt under the City of Springfield mask ordinance, and follow other safety measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
