Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale Brings In $167,698.40
The Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Libraries hit its second-highest total with $167,698.40 in sales of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and more during the Spring Book Sale April 27-May 1. The sale included a record-breaking Friends Preview Night April 26 – with $50,155.35 of items sold in the three-hour event.
The Friends’ record sale was $172,563.88 during the spring 2021 sale.
Nevertheless, the Friends were thrilled with the 2022 results. Treasurer Joyce Kastler and husband Bill sent a message to the all-volunteer group after the always-frenzied, four-hour final-day sale on Sunday -- “Bag Day” – where shoppers jostled among rows of tables and each other to stuff sacks for only $1, or $5 from “better books.” When the sale ended at 5 p.m. Sunday, there was little left on the tables.
“This is the second highest total ever achieved at our sales,” the Kastlers wrote to their army of workers. “Such a great accomplishment! A big pat on the back and thank you to all of you who work so hard not only at the sale but throughout the year to make this sale so successful. Way to go, Team!”
All items at the sale are donated by private individuals, store close-outs and older or slightly damaged library items. Proceeds of the spring and fall sales go back to helping the Library, providing funds for music events, winter and Summer Reading Programs, national author visits, library branch furnishings, and larger-scale projects such as the Mobile Library, the Library Express West and the upcoming Library Express East.
The Friends are already gearing up for the Fall Book Sale Sept. 14-18 at the E*Plex.
