Wild about Weather!

Fronts, waves, surges, depressions. So many fascinating words are associated with weather! Do you have a child wondering how clouds form or what causes thunder? Perhaps they have questions about a recent weather event they have heard about. Weather can have a mysterious fascination for kids, and the library has just what you need to help you explore and answer all their burning questions!

Books:

Ultimate Weatherpedia: The Most Complete Weather Reference Ever by Stephanie Warren Drimmer. 

If your child is looking for a wide range of weather information, this is the book for them! From extreme weather events to how weather is formed, this National Geographic Kids book is filled with cool facts, colorful photos and graphics.

 

Weather and the Seasons.

For our youngest scientists, this simple to understand book will help to answer their toughest questions. Filled with dynamic pictures and illustrations this book introduces weather in a fun and accessible way for early learners. Also included are activities and crafts to further reinforce the information.

 

Wild Weather: Storms, Meteorology, and Climate by M.K. Reed. 

An informational graphic novel featuring news meteorologist Stormin Norman. When he hears the anchorman making uninformed comments about the weather, Stormin Norman educates him on just about everything related to weather. Done with humor in an engaging graphic novel format, this is part of the Science Comics series of books.

Explore the Library's subscription databases to take a deep dive into age-appropriate content for students.

Explora

Explora is a great starting point for all sorts of research and homework assignments. It includes E-books, magazine and news articles, encyclopedia entries and videos. You can narrow your searches by Lexile reading levels.

 

Student researchers will find hundreds of full-text reference books, encyclopedias, science magazines and journals in Science Reference Center.

Primary Search is especially for elementary and middle grade students. It contains full text articles from over 100 childrens’ magazines. Other features include easy to read encyclopedic entries, and millions of photos, maps and flags.
