Are you stuck at home with nothing new to read? Never fear, e-books are here! E-books are electronic versions of printed books and are available to you 24/7 with the help of Overdrive!
E-books can be accessed by downloading the Overdrive-powered app called “Libby” in your app store and used on different devices such as phones or tablets. You can also access Overdrive in your browser on your computer. You’ll need your library card number to use Overdrive. Libby and Overdrive offer excellent e-audiobook selections for children as well.
To access children’s e-books in a web browser, go to thelibrary.org/kids, click on the link titled Homework Help and scroll down and click on the “Overdrive” link to open the Overdrive website. Alternatively, you can type in springfield.overdrive.com in your web browser. You will be asked to enter your library card number. To narrow down the available titles to children’s books click “subjects” and scroll down to the “juvenile fiction books” and click on the subjects that are most appropriate for your child. I love being able to access the “beginning reader” books and having the early reader favorites at my fingertips. Children can read at their own pace or click the “start narration” link at the bottom of the page for the book to be read to them as the words in the book are highlighted. E-books can be read over and over, making them a great choice for building literacy skills as repetition helps children familiarize themselves with words and gain confidence in their reading journey! E-books check out for three weeks and are returned automatically so no need to worry about fines if you forget when a title is due!
