Play Library!

By Cathy at the Library Station

By this time, you and your littles may be missing your routine visits to the library! Read this sweet story about Lola visiting the library on Tumblebooks, then have some fun with pretend play!

One of the most fun ways to play library is to have your little one give a storytime. Set up their dolls and stuffies on the couch, and your kiddo can “read” and sing to them. Have a favorite song from storytime? Be sure to include it!

Now it’s time to check out some books. Gather books from your home library and put them in a basket or on a shelf. While choosing books, be sure to ask “the librarian” for suggestions!

It might be fun to design a library card to use when playing library.

Have a play cash register? That could make a good book scanner. Whatever you use for your scanner, be sure to have your child “beep” as each book is scanned!

Have small pieces of paper available for due date receipts. Using a calendar, count how many days until the books are due and write the date on the paper.

Now everyone is probably ready for a snack, just like Lola and her mommy! So be sure to grab a cappuccino and relax for a minute! And know that your librarians are missing you just as much as you miss the library and can’t wait to see you again!
