By Allyson at the Library Station
Make reading fun by interacting with a rhyming book that allows kids to wiggle along with the story. Your kids will enjoy wiggling to match the text and animals in the book “Wiggle” by Doreen Cronin. This ebook is presented on Tumblebooks. Greene County residents can sign up here for a temporary card
Activities:
Pair these activities with the book and get moving!
Listen
Listen to the story over and over. Turn the volume off and try to sing the text of the storybook to the tune of “Do Your Ears Hang Low?” Dance to the music!
Wiggle Jar
Write down wiggles from the book onto strips of paper: wiggle like a snake, wiggle like a worm, wiggle your tail like a dog, etc. Place them in a jar. Choose a strip of paper when your child needs to get the wiggles out.
Simon Says
Use wiggles to play the classic kid’s game. Simon says, wiggle like a frog, wiggle like a worm or wiggle like other animals from the story. If you don’t say the words, ‘Simon says’ then your child must stay frozen. Simon Says is a great way to practice those executive function skills!
Sun Fun
Go outside and do movements from the story. How does a worm wiggle? What about a polar bear? Create new movements together that animals do: run like a cheetah, fly like a bird, swim like a fish.
When you’re done, wiggle down for a nice rest!
