Where's Baby?

By Jennifer at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library

“Where’s Baby?...Peek-a-Boo!” This is not only one of the first games many parents play with their babies to induce smiles and giggles, but also an important step towards reaching early milestones and building vocabulary. Babies love games like peek-a-boo that incorporate social/emotional, language and cognitive skills. All of these help pre-talkers identify and interact with the world around them. As children grow, asking simple questions while you are reading together is another simple way to put this into practice. “Where’s Baby?” is just a few simple steps from identifying “Where’s the bear?” “Which dog is brown?” or “What’s on the next page?” Once your early talker has mastered identifying objects, you can move onto learning prepositional phrases, such as “Where is the boy’s hat?” “Which animal is in the barn?” or “What’s on top of the table?”

Here are a few books you may enjoy from the library, but be sure to ask your librarian for more suggestions!
