The most important word to any child is their name! Using the rhythm or tune of a well-known song and singing each letter helps create connections in the child’s memory to help them remember those important letters and the order of them in their name. You may have to try out several different songs to get one that fits. Here are some examples:
The A,B,C Song:
H, E, A, T, H, E, R, Heather is a superstar!
H, E, A, T, H, E, R, Heather is a superstar!
H, E, A, T, H, E, R, Heather is a superstar!
BINGO:
There was a boy who had a name: B, R, I, A, N.
And in his name there were 5 letters: B, R, I, A, N.
B, R, I, A, N ... B, R, I, A, N ... B, R, I, A, N,
And Brian was his name.
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little, Star:
B, E ... N, J ... A, M, I, N.
That’s how we spell Benjamin!
B, E ... N, J ... A, M, I, N.
That’s how we spell Benjamin!
You can always just make up your own tune if you can’t find a song that works easily. Start singing your child’s special name song early and you’ll be amazed at how quickly they catch on!
