Interviewer:  This recording is part of the Big Read 2010; recorded at the Library Center on March 7, 2010 by Elena Flores.  Hi, Elena.  Can you tell us how old you are?

Elena Flores:  Seven.

Interviewer:  Seven years old.  And where do you live?

Elena Flores:  In Springfield.

Interviewer:  Springfield.  What kinds of things do you like to do for fun?

Elena Flores:  Read.

Interviewer:  Yeah, what do you like to read?

Elena Flores:  A lot of books.

Interviewer:  Ok, do you have a favorite book?

Elena Flores:  Yeah.

Interviewer:  What’s that?

Elena Flores:  Fancy Nancy.

Interviewer:  Oh, yes, the Fancy Nancy.  And why do you like the Fancy Nancy books?

Elena Flores:  Cause it’s funny and the little girl, Fancy Nancy, is really fancy and funny.

Interviewer:  Mm hmm.  You like to be fancy too?

Elena Flores:  Mm hmm.

Interviewer:  Mm hmm.  You like to play dress-up?

Elena Flores:  Yeah!

Interviewer:  Yeah, I thought so.  Tell me about your school.  Where do you go to school and what’s it like?

Elena Flores:  Well, I go to Sunshine Elementary and it’s really fun, and I have a lot of great teachers.

Interviewer:  What kinds of things do you learn at school?

Elena Flores:  Kind of like how we should do math, and one time when we were doing science we planted tulips and we think they’re gonna’ grow in the spring.

Interviewer:  Mm hmm.  That sounds like fun.

Elena Flores:  Mm hmm.

Interviewer:  Mm hmm. So do you have any stories about your teacher that you’d like to tell us today?

Elena Flores:  No.

Interviewer:  No?  Do you have a story about something that happened at school that was funny?

Elena Flores:  Not really.

Interviewer:  Not really.  Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?  Would you like to tell us about your family?

Elena Flores:  No.

Interviewer:  Ok, well I guess that will conclude our recording.  Thank you, Elena.
