Community Health Resources

Members of the Springfield-Greene County community have several valuable resources available to them at no charge. CoxHealth provides a patient-oriented library that is freely accessible. It is necessary to register with this organization before borrowing any materials.


Mercy Hospital also has a Consumer Health Information Service, as well as a library for healthcare professionals. 


  • CoxHealth Consumer Health Libraries

    CoxHealth in Springfield, Missouri provides health library services virtually to the public. There is also a physical consumer library at the Women's Center.

    In the Joyce Schwandt Resource Library you can find wellness journals, magazines, and books on a variety of topics, including pregnancy and childbirth, parenting, behavioral health, living healthy in all stages of life and much more. Materials are available for borrowing. 


  • Mercy Medical Library Services

    Mercy Hospital Springfield Medical Library provides two distinct library services to the community. Staffed by professional medical librarians, a wide variety of health information resources and library services is available. Contact a medical librarian to request research assistance, request a literature search, obtain an article, or obtain access to research databases.

    The Van K. Smith Consumer Health Information Service (CHIS) serves patients, family members, and the communities of southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas. The CHIS is a free public service of Mercy Hospital Springfield Medical Library. This service is directed toward the needs of the health consumer and general public to enable them to make informed health decisions and become active participants in their health care and total well-being. Professional medical librarians are available to provide assistance in locating health information. Assistance is provided for quick reference questions as well as more in-depth research needs. Requests for assistance may be submitted by phone, email, or online.
