Grants for Individuals

When it comes to grants for individuals there are many untrustworthy businesses out to get your money. There is no such thing as free money to pay your bills or to pay off your home. The majority of grant opportunities are for nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. That being said, there are some specific types of funding available for individuals; you just need to make sure you are dealing with a reputable source.

First and foremost, the Springfield Greene County Library offers free access to the Foundation Grants to Individuals database at The Library Center. This database is designed for students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices. The individuals database has more than 6,000 foundations and public charity programs that fund individual grant seekers for scholarships, fellowships, writer residencies, performing arts, academic research, professional support and more.

Also available to individual grant seekers is benefits.gov. This site is a partnership between many federal agencies and organizations to provide improved, personalized access to government funding. The website now includes over 1,000 programs representing 17 federal partners, and is an easy-to-use, single source of benefit information for individuals and families.

The Federal government also publishes the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance once a year and it is available for use in the Funding and Business Information Center at The Library Center the catalog can also be accessed online at beta.sam.gov.
