Early Childhood Specialist to Speak August 30
July 15, 2011 — Parents and child care providers are invited to attend a free presentation, “Racing to Read: The Joyful Journey to Literacy,” by early childhood consultant Pam Schiller at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.
The event will be at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church, 314 E. Sunshine St. Parking is available at the church. The program is for adults only; child care will not be provided.
Seating is limited; tickets are free but are required for entrance. Tickets are available at any Springfield-Greene County Library. For details call Nancee at 616-0563.
The presentation for parents and child care providers will explore new ways to make sure children are ready for kindergarten, starting at birth. The program is sponsored by the Springfield-Greene County Library District and the Missouri Parent Information Resource Center, Southwest.
Pam Schiller is an author, early childhood consultant and educator. She has been a child care administrator for several years and has also taught in the public schools as a kindergarten teacher. She served as Head of the Early Childhood Department at the University of Houston where she also directed the Lab School.
Schiller shares her extensive knowledge in workshops, radio and television interviews, and as a popular keynote speaker and author.
She is Senior Author of the DLM Early Childhood Express, a full curriculum for 4-year-olds; the DLM Early Childhood Program, a full curriculum for Kindergarten and Early Impressions: Start Smart Edition; a full curriculum for infants and toddlers. Schiller is also the author of several children's books, music CDs, DVDs and more than 30 teacher resource books for Gryphon House, Goodyear Books, SRA/McGraw-Hill, and Fearon Teaching Aids.
