Robert E. Smith Focus of First Friday Art Talk and Art Walk Dec. 2 at Park Central Branch Library
November 21, 2011 —
Patrons of all ages are invited to attend First Friday Art Talk and Art Walk at 6 and 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at the Park Central Branch Library, 128 Park Central Square. This month’s events will focus on the artwork of Springfield’s own Robert E. Smith.
At 6 p.m. Art Talk begins with the topic "Robert E. Smith: Springfieldian, Folk Artist, and Friend to All," a reminiscence of the man and his work by Carla Stine and Eric Pervukhin. Stine and Pervukhin are co-editors of “Robert E. Smith,” a book newly published by Moon City Press. Stine, a distinguished local artist and long-time friend of Smith's, and Pervukhin, a Missouri State University professor of art and design, will be joined at the podium by Dwaine Crigger, a MSU professor emeritus of art and design.
Their presentation will be followed by Art Walk at 7 p.m. including a display of as many as 24 pieces of Smith's art from the private collections of Stine, Pervukhin, Crigger, and Springfieldians Sally and Rob Baird. Music during Art Walk will be provided by Live Oak Band.
Copies of “Robert E. Smith” will be available for purchase at the events.
