‘Extra! Extra! Read All About It’ Music Therapy Programs Help Kids with Literacy Skills

May 31, 2013 — Morgan Robertson from the Center for Music Therapy and Wellness will use music therapy techniques to help kids build literacy skills during workshops for children and parents at various Library locations this summer.

Morgan will focus on a favorite book at each session and use music to make the story really sing! Parents will learn how music can open up literacy skills for special learners.

These free workshops are open to children preschool-grade 2 and their parents, and will take place at the following times and Library locations:

  • Tuesday, June 4, 1 p.m. in the Library Center Story Hour Room for “Pete the Cat”
  • Wednesday, June 26, 1 p.m. in the Library Station Frisco Room for “Rumble in the Jungle”
  • Tuesday, July 9, 1 p.m. at the Brentwood Branch Library for “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell!”
  • Tuesday, July 23, 1 p.m. at the Willard Branch Library for “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”

This program is made possible through Abilities First and the Center for Music Therapy and Wellness.
