Author Visits and Gardening Programs: Harbingers of Spring at the Library
March 19, 2015 —
This is the time of year the library brings in nationally revered authors for the one book, one community celebration. This year’s series of events runs April 2-16, and the keynote author is familiar to many readers and movie goers.
Lois Lowry, author of “The Giver” and inspiration for last year’s motion picture, will talk about her craft at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, in the Springfield Art Museum auditorium.
Two more authors headline our One Read: Young adult fiction authors Ellen Hopkins and Chris Crutcher will share the stage at 7 p.m. April 14 at the Library Center auditorium. You can learn about all the One Read programs at thelibrary.org/oneread, or in Bookends available at any branch.

The big train engine at the Library Station has been a hit with our pint-size visitors since the branch opened in 2003. The old engine was retired this month, but a new, kid-friendly one has taken its place on the tracks. Visit the Station soon; where kids can climb aboard the new engine we’ve named “Cooper.” Naturally, Executive Director Regina Greer Cooper approves.

Springfield native and Mississippi-based author Steve Yates spun a memorable Ozarks tale with his 2013 historical fiction, “Morkan’s Quarry.” Steve has released his sequel, “The Teeth of the Souls,” filled with a lifelong and secret love and life in post-Civil War Springfield. Steve will discuss his book at 7 p.m. March 26 in the Library Center’s meeting room B. The book will be available for purchase.
