Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale April 21-26 at Remington’s

April 13, 2015 — The giant Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale returns April 21-26 at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road, with collectible baseball cards, military history books, children’s pop-up books and more.

The sale kicks off with the popular Friends Night Preview Sale 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 20. Friends members get in free with their current membership cards. Or pay $5 at the door, which also buys a year’s individual Friends membership and free admission to the Fall Book Sale Preview Sale!

Regular sale hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, April 21-24; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, which is Half-Price Day; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 26, Bag Day, when final-day shoppers pay only $1 for all the books they can stack in a sack, or $5 per sack from the better books side. The Friends can accept only cash or check with proper ID for all items.

Adult, young adult and children’s books and most audiovisual items are priced at $1 or less. Better books from all genres are priced $2 and up. The sale features books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, board games and puzzles donated by individuals or weeded from the library district’s collection.

Notable this year: The Friends have 10,000 collectible baseball cards that will be sold by the box for $5-$20. Individual cards will not be sold. The sale also includes military history books, a larger-than-normal collection of sci-fi paperbacks, atlases and 1800s-era collectibles; children’s picture books and pop-up books; and a large number of books on CD, DVDs and vinyl records; and more 2014 and 2015 hardback fiction.

It’s a great opportunity to stock up on summer reading for all ages. Teachers and home-schoolers can load up books for their home or school libraries. Parents can find treasures for their children and treasure hunters can find dozens of books for their cookbook, art or rare-book collections.

The Friends of the Library work year-round to transport and price the donated items for the spring and fall sales. Proceeds from the sales fund special programs, concerts and capital projects for the public to enjoy at their Springfield-Greene County Libraries.
