Geezerfest May 16 at Library Center; Midtown Carnegie Branch Receives Upgrades; Teen Volunteer Opportunities at the Library
May 14, 2015 —
Geezerfest is back! And who doesn’t love a party on the parking lot – or patio?
The Springfield band Geezer returns with its annual summer kickoff concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 16, on the Library Center patio (in the auditorium if it rains.)
Geezer is best known for great harmonies and classic rock ‘n’ roll from the 60s and 70s. The group includes Richard Struckhoff, Mark Ellman, Mark Pasquale, Duane Lewis, Rusty Swift, Jana Henderson and David Sharon.
We’ll provide seating on the patio, but you’re also welcome to bring a lawn chair. The Mudhouse will be open for soft drinks and snacks, or pack your own for a tailgate party on the parking lot.
And speaking of favorite programs, Stargazing with Springfield Astronomical Society returns at 8:30-10 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, on the Library Center’s south lawn. The Springfield Astronomical Society will set up telescopes for all ages to stargaze with them. Rain date: May 21.

Visitors to the Midtown Carnegie Branch will soon notice several upgrades to the 110-year-old library. Public restrooms and the ornate stained glass windows are being refreshed. The new basement conference room now has soundproof panels for quiet study or meetings, a new checkout desk is being installed, and the south entrance steps off Central Street are headed for repair and a new stainless steel handrail.

If you know of a teen ages 14-18 looking for something meaningful to do this summer and perhaps earn some community service credit for school, invite them to contact their neighborhood library. The branches are always looking for teens to help make crafts, design props and suggest programs for children’s and teen departments. Interested teens may call the library human resources department at (417) 883-5366 for more information.
