Todd Parnell “Pig Farm” Book Signing Oct. 27 at Library Center
October 17, 2018 — Author and former Drury University president Todd Parnell will sell and sign copies of his latest book, “Pig Farm,” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Library Center concourse, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.
"Pig Farm" unfolds a sweeping and rollicking historical tall tale set in the context of a real-life environmental tragedy on the Buffalo National River in northwest Arkansas.
Young Jebediah Snarkle and his family move from their Tennessee homeland to the newly minted state of Arkansas and the fictional Large Creek. His family competes with the Hensbells across decades and generations over sustainable agriculture, money and politics, which spark violence, tragic events, greed and even intermarriage.
"Pig Farm” is not an expose on corporate agriculture, Parnell says. It is, however, an indictment of locating large-scale confined animal feeding operations, or CAFOs, near powerless communities that don’t want them spoiling their quality of life or the environmentally sensitive water resources.
