Ford's visit is part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Springfield African American Read-In, "Freedom Stories... The Journey Continues."
The Springfield celebration includes the traveling exhibit "Telling a People’s Story: African American Children’s Illustrated Literature." The exhibit is at the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave., through March 31; and at the Duane G. Meyer Library, Missouri State University, April 3 – May 22.
This is the first major museum exhibition devoted to the art found within the pages of African-American children’s picture books. It celebrates the complex and diverse African-American experience through a lens intended for children and young readers.
The exhibit Telling A People's Story: African-American Children's Illustrated Literature is organized by the Miami University Art Museum through a grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.
