Bargains Ahead: Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is Oct. 16-20 at the E*Plex; Friends Preview Night Oct. 15

September 23, 2019 —  Don’t miss your chance to buy bargain-priced, like-new books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, games and puzzles for the whole family at the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 16-20 at the E*Plex at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant Ave. 

This is the big fall event that families with young children, teachers and student teachers, and movie and music lovers wait for. And with the holidays ahead, it’s a great time to pick up gifts for everyone from fiction and history lovers to cookbook collectors and sci-fi fans. Adult, young adult and children's books and most audiovisuals are $1 or less. Better books are $2 and up.

The Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Friends members admitted free, or pay $5 at the door and join the Friends that night. Membership will admit you free to the spring 2020 Friends sale!

Regular sale hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, Oct. 16-18; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, Half-Price Day; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, Bag Day. Everything you can jam into a sack is only $1, or $5 per bag from Better Books.  

Parking is free, and Friends accept cash or checks only. An ATM is on site.

Every sale brings unusual items. This sale includes collectibles including books signed by President Jimmy Carter and Walter Cronkite; “Reports of the Committees of the Senate of the U.S. for the Second Session Congress 1871-72 (Ku Klux Klan Conspiracy) two volumes; over 100 role-playing and gaming books including Dungeons & Dragons; a huge collection of vintage and current Max Brand Westerns; and a large selection of LP vinyl records.

The Friends also created new book categories including Collectible Noteworthy, with a first edition title by Jonas and Jonathan Salk; and a Sotheby’s Catalog for the Estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Auction; and a large selection of topics in the Great Courses series.

Proceeds from the fall and spring Friends Book Sales benefit the Springfield-Greene County Library District. For details, call 417-850-1999.
