There's a Summer Reading Program for All Ages Starting June 1
May 4, 2021 — Ready for some great summer stories and fun activities?
The 2021 Summer Reading Program, Tails & Tales, kicks off June 1 with reading challenges and activities that can help readers earn prizes and chances to win even more. Best of all, summer reading builds better readers! There's a reading program for kids from birth to age 18, and a separate program for adults.
The program runs June 1-Aug. 7 for pre-readers from birth through age 5; kids and teens in grades K-12; and adults 18 and older.
Beginning June 1, parents and young participants can pick up a game board at any library branch or Mobile Library, or log on to thelibrary.org/summerreading and follow the links to register for the reading program that fits you. Start logging reading minutes and complete the activities to earn great prizes. Game boards help motivate kids to keep reading!
Pre-readers benefit from being read to even if they can’t read – it builds pre-reading skills. And listening to others read to them counts toward their reading time.
Teens can post reviews, too, at thelibrary.org/summerreading.
Pre-readers, kids and teens can earn a free book upon completing the program, and a Fresh Start Fine Waiver Card. Prizes can be picked up at any library branch or the Mobile Library between June 7 and August 7. Keep reading, and earn Star Readers entries in the end-of-summer drawings. Prizes include reading totes, coupons for free books and gift cards.
Adults can register at thelibrary.org/summerreading and log books on the registration form to earn prizes, too! Or log your registration and books on forms available at the checkout desk of any library branch or the Mobile Library. As you log books, you earn entries into our August 9 drawings for gift cards to locally owned shops and restaurants, and book-themed gifts for book lovers. Winners will be notified on August 10 by email or phone.
Keep reading and earning entries all summer long for the August drawings!
The Summer Reading Program is funded by the Friends of the Library, with additional funding from Missouri State Library.
