Dispose of Unused Prescriptions on Drug Take Back Day Oct. 23

October 12, 2021 —  The public is invited to dispose of their unused prescription drugs anonymously and safely at one of two Drug Take Back sites on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The events are part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Designated individuals will take possession of the drugs at:

  • The Library Center parking lot, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.
  • CoxHealth pharmacy at Cox North, 1422 N. Jefferson Ave.

The Springfield event is sponsored by the DREAM Coalition, Community Partnership of the Ozarks and multiple area partners.

The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
