Ozarks Genealogical Society

The Ozarks Genealogical Society (OGS) has provided leadership in genealogical research and the preservation of local history and family records since 1969. OGS maintains a collection of more than 9,000 books and hundreds of microfilm, microfiche, manuscripts and periodicals. Emphasis is on southwest Missouri and areas east of Missouri from which most early Missourians migrated during the westward expansion, particularly Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia. Books on New England, the Middle Atlantic states and the Midwest are also prominent in the collection.


Approximately half of the collection is housed in the Local History and Genealogy Department of the Library Center and half at the Ozarks Genealogical Society Library.


AT THE LIBRARY CENTER

  • Census indexes and major reference materials

  • Microfilm collection of available Missouri Federal Census Schedules, including Soundex for 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920.

  • Greene County, Missouri, court records

The records are available for viewing when the Library Center is open. Some books in the collection are available for check out to Springfield-Greene County Library card holders.

LENDING INFORMATION

Springfield-Greene County Library card holders can check out some of the Ozarks Genealogical Society's materials housed in the Library Center's Local History & Genealogy Department.


MONTHLY MEETINGS

OGS holds regular meetings at the Library Center. Their Computer Interest Group also meets at the Library Center. Details are available on the See all Local History & Genealogy programs.
