And the best thing about summer reading is...

Published May 17, 2013 by: Chelsea

We've gone through our countdown of the Best of Summer Reading all week.  And the #1 best thing about the Summer Reading Program is....

Yes, readers, everything about the summer reading program is F-R-E-E.

Programs? Free.

Books, magazines, music, and movies? Free.

Hanging out in an airconditioned place with comfy chairs and wifi and your friends? Free.

Playing the Wii, Kinect, and xBox? Free.

How can you beat that?

Remember, the Summer Reading Program starts tomorrow (May 18.)  Be sure to sign up at thelibrary.org/beneath

Counting Down to Summer Reading

Published May 16, 2013 by: Chelsea

We're getting close to the end of the summer reading countdown.   And our picks continue with...

#2 - Awesome programs!!!

The Library has tons of awesome programs planned for this summer.

Get ready for Shark Week at the Brentwood and Willard Branch Libraries.  Have a Zombie Pajama Party at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library.  Get your geek on at Nerd Prom at The Library Center and talk to your fellow Whovians at our Doctor Who Crew on Tuesday nights.

There's so much happening at our libraries this summer, and the best thing is that it's all free.  FREE!!!  Bring your friends and come hang out all summer long.

For more information about programs, check out the latest edition of Bookends, follow us here at thelibrary.org/teens, and check into thelibrary.org/beneath often!

And remember, if you want to have a say in what programs the Library plans, be sure to join a Teen Advisory Board.

And the countdown continues...

We're continuing our countdown of the 5 best things about summer reading with...

#3 - Hearing about the best books from other readers

Did you know that you can leave notes for other readers telling them what you think about the book their about to read?  Yes!  You can leave reviews all year long at CoolCat.org (make sure you have your library card) or you can submit reviews @ thelibrary.org/beneath to get entered in to win more prizes!

But seriously.  Hear about what's the best book of the year from your friends before anyone else does.  Find out what your crush (or even your mortal enemy) is reading.

Remember that summer reading starts this Saturday, May 18.

Log into thelibrary.org/beneath to sign up!

Summer reading start Saturday, May 18. Are you ready? We are!

We're incredibly excited to go Beneath The Surface with you! Sign up at thelibrary.org/beneath to get started. All you have to do is make up a username and password, let us know how we can get ahold of you if you win a prize, and tell us what school and grade you're going to be in next year. Then, keep checking back in to tell us how many hours you read and what you're reading.

Don't forget about the prizes!  4 hours of reading gets you the Food 'n' Fun Flip Card.  Read 4 more hours, and you win a Fine Waiver Card AND something from the prize box.  After that, keep reading! Each week, we'll draw names to come in for random prize drawings. Pick up things like backpacks, water bottles, key chains, flash lights, free books and more! And at the end of the summer, we'll have a grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire.

There you have it - the summer reading program in a nutshell. Read books. Win prizes. How easy is that?
