William (Bill) David Cameron

William David Cameron died Dec. 27, 1987, at the age of 89. Bill was born April 1, 1898, in Antrim, Ireland, and served in World War I with the Royal Irish Fusilier Regiment.

In 1923, he came to the United States and resided most of his life in Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during both world wars. After World War II, he built his own feed mill in Exeter. In 1945, he married Letha Britain, and the two shared an interest in the School of the Ozarks. In 1969, Bill sold his business and afterhis wife’s deathin 1971, he moved to the S of 0 campus. There he worked on the operation and construction of Edwards Mill and later was responsible for moving the Barry County Star School to the S of 0 campus.

Bill was an active member of the Society and supportive of any efforts to preserve southwest Missouri’s cultural heritage.

Lucille A. Brown

Lucille A. Brown passed away Jan. 30, 1988 and was buried in Ozark Cemetery, Ozark, Mo., on Feb. 2.

Lucille was a diligent worker and a generous financial supporter of our Society. She served as president from June 1978 to June 1981 and was library chairman, indexing many back issues of the Quarterly, until forced retirement in ‘85.

As a gift to our treasury, she donated over 100 copies of the book she and Mr. Brown wrote, titled "Son of Pioneers, Recollections of an Ozark Lawyer." She was named an Honorary member in June 1986. Her family requested that memorial contributions may be made to the Society.
