1917
WATER,
HEAT AND LIGHT CIRCUITS: By 1917 the Pullman car contained
innumerable hidden mechanisms, concealed devices, ingenuities
of construction, electrical wizardries and accessories,
created and installed by experts to give the maximum
of comfort and luxury to the twentieth century traveler.
A single Pullman car contained nearly a mile of insulated
copper wire; over half a mile of pipes, and conduits;
a maze of batteries, swithches, valves, switchboards,
dynamos, motors, ventilators, push buttons, call bells,
regulators, signaling apparatus, controls, and other
appurtenances.
