THE
ALL-STEEL CAR APPEARS: No other advance in car building
made so much for safety, up to this date, as all-steel
construction. Following the first experimental steel
car, in 1907, the type was adopted in general service
in 1910. Length 74 feet; full vesibule; 12 sections,
drawing room and smoking room; steel sheathed outside;
electric light from axle device; low pressure vapor
heat system. Interiors were by this time becoming more
quiet, moderate and tasteful, with plain mottled finish,
green frieze plush upholstery and green carpets. This
was the period of standardization.
