In compiling this Directory of Towns, Villages and Hamlets, Past and Present, of Jackson County, Missouri, an effort has been made to include every known community. Due to the difficulty encountered in reading many of the maps, it is very possible that some of the smaller towns may have been omitted. Also, it must be remembered that Kansas City extends into two other counties -- Clay and Platte. These counties will be dealt with in future days.

I wish to thank the staff of the Reference Department of the Springfield-Greene County Library, who very graciously made certain rare books and maps available for examination.
