The White River Valley Historical Quarterly has been published by the White River Valley Historical Society since 1961 and is still in publication. The Society is based in Taney County on the western Missouri and Arkansas border. The area of geographic interest for the Society and the Quarterly, is the upper reaches of the White River Valley, centering in Taney County, Missouri and extending into the counties of Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, including Barry, Stone, Greene, Christian, Taney, Douglas and Ozark counties in Missouri, as well as Madison, Carroll, Boone, Marion and Baxter Counties in Arkansas. These counties are part of the White River watershed in the southern Ozarks. Cities in the region include Springfield, Branson, Galena, Cassville and Forsyth in Missouri. Arkansas cities in the region include Mountain Home, Harrison, Yellville and Eureka Springs.

Members and friends discover, collect and illustrate the past by means of manuscripts, photographs, artifacts and discussions at meetings and civic events. The Society addresses issues concerning historical buildings, sites and trails within the region. Historical and genealogical materials are published in the Society's Quarterly and distributed to all members, including many institutions in the Midwest and the South.

The Quarterly covers a wide range of topics including histories of businesses, water mills, Civil War diaries and reminiscences, logging, hunting and fishing. Of particular interest to genealogists are cemetery records, and genealogical articles about individual families.
