The Rev. WALTER H. RILEY of Texarkana, Texas, has generously donated to the Society a copy of Seeds of Time by H. Harold Shamel. We wish to thank Mr. Riley for this interesting book telling of the author's family which lived in the Ozarks during the 1890's, as well as recalling the old-time customs and songs of that period.
ROY E. STOUT, who wrote the "Early History of Taneyville," Summer 1963 Quarterly, informs us that the man identified as Tom Bird in one of the photographs is the Reverend John Bird. Mr. Stout also has been told by Dock Casey that William Jennings Bryan made his speech at Taneyville just after the 1896 campaign. Mr. Casey was one of those who heard Bryan speak at that time.
Accompanying Bryan on the trip were the mayor of St. Louis, Senator Stone, and others of high order in the party. They had travelled to Chadwick by train, and then down to Forsyth by the mail hack.
When Mrs. HELEN FANCHER AWBERY of Branson was asked for an article about the Fancher family, she gave us a copy of a recent Arkansas Gazette in which appeared a history of the Fanchers. We are indebted to Beverley Githens for giving us permission to reprint her article in this issue of the Quarterly. Miss Githens, Whose husband is the well-known poet Glenn Ward Dresbach, lives at Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
