White River Valley Historical Society

Dear Members of the White River Valley Historical Society:

It is a pleasure and privilege to me to greet you in this, the first Issue of our Quarterly for the fiscal year 1962-63. With the most excellent and efficient set of officers you have chosen to work this year, we should really have an outstanding year.

I feel very humble on this team compared to the others who have given so much and have so much ability, but we will all work together. I would like to put a challenge to every member to get one new member before our year is over. If each member would do that, just think what it would do to our membership. It would give us seven hundred or more and would enable us to do considerably more with the funds that we would receive. The dollar to secure the Quarterly is one of the best bargains that can be gotten. If these quarterlies are saved through the years, it will be a real history of our Ozark counties that is unavailable any place else.

I have just sent in my first new member and hope to get many more before the year is over and I challenge each of you to do this. It should not be difficult for us to get one new member.

I would also like to tell you that Mrs. Dudley Cummings of Branson has agreed to serve as editor of the Quarterly. Any in formation that you have that you think would be of interest, might be sent to her. The first issue is now in preparation, as I write this, and through the cooperation of our efficient Secretary, Elmo Ingenthron, we have a fine bulletin in prospect. I am sure that everyone would agree that Elmo has been the leading spirit in the organization and development of this Society and we owe much to him and are very fortunate to have him as our Secretary this year.

We would like to start our year off with a dinner at The School of the Ozarks in Fellow ship Hall, which is the basement of our church. The date for this is Friday, September 28, at 6:30 P.M. There will be no charge for the dinner and any new member that you can get before this time, we guarantee they will get more than their dollar's worth from the dinner, and fellowship cannot be measured in dollars. We are fortunate in having some of our very finest citizens in the Ozark counties in this Society. This is very evident when you attend the meeting where you can meet old-time friends and renew old-time acquaintances. We hope to carry forward, in some measure, some of the very fine and excellent work that was done last year.
