Volume 2, Number 11 - Spring 1967
A Letter from Dr. L. Adelia Duggins
A genealogy friend of mine, Ruth Henson Asher, sent me a copy of the wonderful White River Valley Historical Quarterly, Summer 1966. My father is 84 and you would have loved seeing him live his boyhood days over through the Quarterly. I must subscribe to it for both of us. And since I have already received more than the value of the subscription, Im enclosing a little extra to carry on the splendid job of preserving those priceless historical documents.
Theres an article in this issue (Summer 1966) on p 21, about A. C. Hensley, now of Oklahoma, but formerly of Taney County. What a thrill it was to find this! A. C. Hensleys mother was born Laurey M. Henson in Knox County, Tenn., 12 Jan, 1815 and married there 13 August 1849, to George W. Hensley. They moved to Dallas County, Mo. in 1856; and then to Taney County 1868. They are both buried at White River, above Forsyth. Their children were: Susan E. May; Augustus C.; Charity Maddox; Lucy A. McMillian; William P.; Sarah M. Howard; and Mary C. Rollen.
Laurey M. (Henson) Hensley was the 10th child of William and Charity Henson, who married in Wythe County, Virginia, and came to Tennessee in 1804. I have their Bible record. The eldest child John Henson, born 1795, Wythe Co Virginia, married Mary Cottrell in Knox Co. Tenn. Their son, Nathaniel T. Henson, born 8 Jan. 1835 married 21 Mar. 1855 Dialtha Rogers Compton. These were my great-grandparents. Some of my ancestors of both Compton and Henson lines, settled in Missouri before the Civil War; also some of my McCoughan ancestors.
My G.G.G. grandparents, William and Charity Henson, came to Missouri with Laurey Hensley and her husband, George. They are buried I am sure in Taney County. I wonder if there is any way you can help me make contact with any of the descendents of George W. and Laurey Henson Hensley. Perhaps they could tell me about William and Charity Henson in Missouri and perhaps theyd like to know about Laureys folks in Tennessee ... L.
