The Editor Speaks

Mr. J. Guy Fuller, editor of the "The Civil War Round Table of Oklahoma City used "Excerpts from a Soldiers Diary", that part describing Wilson Creek battlefield.
"I am interested in Turner, Redman and Clayton lines found in Taney, Douglas and Laclede Counties. Will you help me? . . . Mr. Ralph Collins, West Star Route, Lovington, New Mexico.
"On a recent visit with my aunt Nora Ingraham Liebhart in Olympia Wash. I was impressed and pleased to read the Quarterly article about my late Uncle John Bennett. I want to especially thank the writer for bringing back memories of my association with Uncle Johnnie Bennett. Altho our meetings were few, there was the old swimming hole in Swan Creek near Forsyth; catching minnows with sein and lantern light to using dough bait for croppy and bass in the lake above the dam . . to a very rough choppy trip in the straits of Juan De Fuca near Port Angels then altho very sea sick Uncle Johnny landed a 20 pound salmon with the ground swells breaking over our 20 ft chartered boat and like the true sportsman he was he enjoyed every moment of it. "I am working on a genealogy of Mitchell, Warren and Bradley families of Taney County. Do you know of any publications or of any one working on these same lines? My g-grandfather, John Rairdon Mitchell born 1825 was killed by the bushwackers in 1865. He married Rebecca Bradley and she later married Mr. Haworth. My grandfather William Thomas Mitchell married Sallie Jane Warren who was the sister of Mary Warren Breeden who lived in Branson, all her life I believe. Write, Mrs. Robert L. If reading letters constituted the work of an editor, then getting the copy ready might be only joy. The following show what I mean, but also keep in mind that some sent no copy . . . that was bad.
"Many thanks for the fine story of a friend of the long ago, when we were both in the teen age bracket, Johnny Bennett, with the very excellent picture of himself and wife, Kathie Liebhart. When he first returned from the far northwest I had the pleasure of a visit with him and his sister, Mrs. Alice Dickenson, but that was after the death of Kathie. I have not seen her since we were about fourteen, namely in the spring of 1899. A term in school together, 1898-99, furnished me with characters to admire, lo, these many years Altho I have not been a resident of the area since March 1900, I find names still familiar in the records brought out in the Quarterly, a booklet which I prize very much." . . "I am the adopted son of Mr. Harry Church who was with Mr. Freeman on the Taney County Republican for many years. I left that country in 1909 after having worked as a water boy on the Lake Taneycomo dam and also worked on the construction gang when the railroad was built thru Branson, Omaha, and points south . . . If any Stallcups are still living in Taney County, I would like to get in touch with them. I am a descendent of this family and have considerable information on that family that I would share with them. We can trace the line back to 1617 in Sweden . . . Volume II, No. 10 should be designated "Winter of 1966 - 67 on the outside and on the inside front cover. Along the line we have made some mistakes on the lettering but not on the numbering. So you will find the volume and number correct. Please change winter 1967 to Winter 1966 -67.
