Alpheus Wheeler and Elizabeth Oliver

Alpheus was born about 1807 at Brooke County, Virginia (now West Virginia). He was in Bates County, Mo., in 1843 where he was a witness on a couple of wills. On 8 May 1847 he enrolled as a volunteer for the

Mexican War at Springfield, Mo. He was mustered into service 11 June 1847 at Independence, Mo. He was appointed as Commissary at Taos by Major Reynolds on 31 Jan 1848. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment Mounted Volunteers. Aipheus was honorably discharged 21 Oct 1848.

Alpheus bought land in 1849 in Taney County. He married Elizabeth Oliver about 1849. She was born about 1834 in Taney County, Mo., the youngest child of James and Rachel (Holman) Oliver.
