Volume 32, Number 4 - Summer 1993
Spring Meeting - September 12, 1993
The College of the Ozarks
Friendship House Banquet Room - 1:00 p.m.
"Father Ferdinand Helias:
Pioneer Missionary in the German Ozarks" by Dr. Gary Kremer
Gary Kremer, former Missouri state archivist and current full professor at William Woods College, will give our next free public program hosted by the Society and funded by the Missouri Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Missouri Humanities Council is the only statewide organization dedicated exclusively to promoting lifelong learning in history, literature and the other branches of the humanities.
Kremer will give a portrait of Father Helias in the northern Ozarks during Missouris formative years. Missionary Helias traveled throughout central Missouri founding one parish after another in his attempt to solidify a common community among new immigrants from the Old World.
Society members and guests will arrive shortly after the noon hour to enjoy fellowship and lunch served by buffet or table service in the banquet room. College help is available to carry trays, so come join us for conversation prior to the meeting.
