Below Barbara Wehrman, publisher of the Ozarks Mountaineer Magazine, offers the late Clay Anderson’s book collection to researchers. Clay Anderson was editor of the Ozarks Mountaineer Magazine from 1967 to 1993.

"When Clay Anderson was living, he amassed a tremendous library of Ozarks books--many now out of print. They have been cataloged and are available for reference and research at the headquarters of the Ozarks Mountaineer at Kirbyville. The books can’t leave the premises, but can be used for research. If interested in setting up an appointment, call (417) 336-2665."

Elnora Williams, Route 2, Box 698, Muldrow, OK 74948 is interested in exchanging data on LOOMIS, MATLOCK, HILTON, WILLIAMS, AND MORELAND Families in BARRY, LAWRENCE, and STONE Counties in MO and CARROLL and BOONE Counties in Arkansas from 1850 to 1910 or later.

65610 would like to know about the history of the town of DUGGINSVILLE, in OZARK COUNTY, MO. She believes this town was named for a branch of her DUGGINS Family. She is a descended from "GAGE" DUGGINS and his wife, MINERVA TABOR, whose families settled in the WHITE RIVER VALLEY in the 1830s.

 

DILLARD, ELKINS, ESTES

CHARLOTTE ELKINS, daughter of GABRIEL ELKINS and STAGY DILLARD married JOHN M. ESTES ca 1828 in WARREN CO. TN. They moved to MARION GOUNTY ARKANSAS along with Charlotte’s brother WILLIAM ELKINS and his family in 1849. Gharlotte died at FLIPPIN, AR at the age of 99 with more than 300 descendants. Charlotte’s half brother EDMUND ELKINS married PARALEE ESTES ca 1838 WARREN CO. TN. They were Mrs. Lena Barnes McGoin’s, great grandparents. Mrs. Nicole Lee Burch, 404 Foxwood Circle, Denton, TX 76207-7649 is hoping to get in touch with someone who is researching the surnames CALVIN and WEATHERWAX. She has not as yet been able to get in touch with any relatives in this area who are related to her. She has been told there are many. LEWIS WINIS CALVIN was born October 14, 1895, in Springfield, MO, married March 25, 1916 in Ozark, MO, and died March 29, 1972 in Creston, Iowa. BARBARA HELEN WEATHERWAX born March 14, 1896 in Butler, MO and died June 18, 1982 in Creston, Iowa.

 

Congratulations to WRVHS Charter Member Douglas Mahnkey who celebrated his 94th birthday on June 18. Mr. Mahnkey is an attorney, author, historian and respected community leader. He goes to his law office in Forsyth, MO almost everyday. Continued best wishes to Douglas Mahnkey.

The Show Me Route 66 magazine issue of Spring 1996, Quarterly Magazine of The Route 66 Association of Missouri, reprinted a version of the WRVHQ, Winter 1993, "Morrow’s Station" article; also included were members Hillary and Mary Brightwell, "A Rest Haven," about the well known motor court on East Kearney, Springfield.
