by Ruth Ryser

Tom Casey married Rose Snapp Carr, a widow, after the ending of the War between the States. Their children were twin daughters, Martha Jane (Mattie) and Mary Hester (Mollie), born June 12, 1868 and a son, Willie Z. Casey, born June 11, 1870 in Taney Co. Martha Jane Casey married Frank B. Morris, Jan. 3, 1884 and their children were Robert Floyd, Hardy Alfred, Detrick Lafayette, Lorene May, Mary Francis, Sarah Mabel and Addie Winnifred. The other twin, Mary Hester Casey, married Ballard Preston Havens, April 17, 1895, and their only child was Vivian Havens (Mrs. Rolla Martin). Willie Z. Casey died without leaving issue. Tom Casey’s wife, Rose Snapp Casey, died in 1873 and is believed to be buried in the Snapp Cemetery just south of Forsyth. The twins were five years old and they were taken and reared by their uncle, Dr. Elisha Turner Anderson of Kribyville. Tom Casey remarried and moved to West Plains.

Thanks to Mrs. Rolla Martin for sending the picture and letter of her grandfather, Tom Casey, Taney County Soldier.
