Among the descendants of George Washington DeWitt there are 6 or more Williams, Charles, James and 2 or more of Rebeccas, Roberts and Georges. I am going to number them according to generations, beginning with George Washington DeWitt as 000. His children would be in the 100’s, his grandchildren in the 200’s, great grandchildren in the 300’s and so on. They will not be in order of birth as I do not have the birthdates of most of them. For example; George W. DeWitt’s first son was John Perry, to him I give the number 101, John Perry DeWitt’s son William received number 201.
000—George Washington DeWitt, 1800-1864, Bn. Loudoun County, Virginia. M. Minerva Pope (?) 1815-Bn. Indiana. They migrated to Missouri and their first son, John Perry DeWitt, was born in Macon County, Mo. in 1832. The 1850 census shows that they lived in Green County, Mo., Campbell Township. Children; 101-John Perry, 102-William L., 103-Sarah E.
In 1852 George Washington DeWitt divorced Minerva and married Malinda Stow 1833, Bn. Tennessee.
Children; 104-George Washington 11, 105-Charles Anthony, 106-James M., 107-Thomas F., 108-William Grant.
On Nov. 19, 1861 George Washington DeWitt 000, enlisted in Co. "B", 6th Reg. Calv., Missouri Volunteers. He contracted chronic diarrhea and was given a disability discharge in Dec. 10, 1862. He died from this disease on Oct. 19, 1864. At his death he was living at McCord, Mo., in Stone County.
