My face grew red, indeed. The Christian County Library, Luclle Adams Anderson founded in Ozark, Missouri..she left with shelves holding 50,000 books..not 1,000 as reported in a previous issue of the Quarterly.
Knowing of no history of the National Guard in Missouri during World War I, I am using in our Quarterly parts of "The Arkansas National Guard in The First World War," a term paper presented to Dr. J. J. Hudson, chairman of the History department of the University of Arkansas in Partial fullfillment of the requirements for Course #4453, Recent American History, by M. G. Cameron.

If you do not send White River Valley History Material I may include 50 more pages of another paper presented by Cameron titled "The Issue of Religion in Arkansas in the Presidential Election of 1000" . . or perhaps pages from the Congressional Record or of Jimmie Kirkpatrick’s green Blue Book, I believe always designated as "The Official Manual of the State of Missouri Good reading, too, but not always concerning the counties of the WRVHS.
Kathryn Stowe Purcell 1100 E. Heley Street, Santa Barbara, Cal. 93103 writes:
‘My paternal great grand parents were Benjamin Stowe and Catherine Smithson Stowe, who came from Canon County in Tennessee. Also Thomas Edward Phillips and Elizabeth Collins Phillips who came from Bloomington and Collinsville, Illinois.
My maternal Grandfather and Grandmother were George Herbert Phillips (Herb) and Effie Stone Phillips who were residents of Forsyth for many years.
Grandad Phillips married Emmett and Garnett Wolfe Adams and built their first home for them.
My mother is Anna Phillips Grill and I am the daughter of her by a previous marriage to William Raymond Stowe of Republic."

The History of Greene County, 1883, page 163 points out that John Shannon frequently rode 50 miles to summon a witness and received for his trouble the magnificent sum of fifty cents."
The History of Greene County, 1883, p 169 says at the general election of Aug. 4, 1834 Which lasted for two days John 0. Shannon received 399 votes; Thatcher Union, 93 - for Representative. Reminiscent History of the Ozarks-Ramfree Press p. 140 says "J. Frank Seaman m Miss R. 0. Nelson March 3, 1870 her parents are Samuel 0. and M. C. Shannon Nelson. Mrs. Seaman was born in Stone County in 1851. His uncle John D. Shannon was the first sheriff in Southwest Missouri."
Pioneer families of Missouri p. 190 "Joe Walker of Rockingham County N.C. married Sally Bass of Ireland p. 331, Nathaniel Ferrier’s son Samuel m. Alice Shannon. p. 374, lsiah m. Sallie Bass, settled in Callaway Co. 1823. History of Greene County 1883 p. 142 "Andrew Bass left Tennessee in fall of 1829, arriving in Greene County toward the close of the year.
History of Greene County, 1885 Reprint. page 160
"In the first election in the county—after its organization occurred Aug 5, 1833—for Congressman, the poll book of Campbell township shows 103 votes cast. George Shannon received 96, James Birch 3, John Bull 3. The election (of state) resulted in choice of John Bull of Howard Co."
