Arrow Rock Museum Receives a George Washington Handpress
from Ozark County Times

Last week the AB Duplex Press, which had printed the Ozark County Times from 1966 until the change to offset in 1973, was moved out of the Times plant last week by Roy Goodson of St. Peters, who purchased it for junk value. Helping him was his son, Dan, until the final stages of removal. Hit with sledges, cut in pieces, the press was finally, totally removed after three days of heavy work, both muscular and mechanical.

At the final removal of the steel press beds, there were 10 men involved along with a backhoe.

The Duplex Press replaced a Babcock handfed press in use a number of years which had replaced an old flat bed press which in the early 1900’s was the first powered press at the Times. Before this, a George Washinton handpress had been used. This press was donated to the newspaper museum at Arrow Rock State Park.
