Volume 6, Number 10 - Winter 1979
My Father, Clarence John Hopper was born in Taney Co., Mo. 17 Dec. 1883, to Milford and Mary Louise (COMBS) HOPPER; Milfords father and mother were: Anderson and Mary (FLETCHER) HOPPER; Andersons parents were: Clemon and Isaphena (HOPPER) HOPPER; Clemon Hoppers parents were: Joseph and Agnes (STEPHENS) HOPPER. Josephs parents were THOMAS HOPPER Sr. and wife? (was she Mary Mourning)?; and if so, who were her parents? Mary Louise (Maggie) Combs parents were Sterling COMBS & wife Sarah Ann STARK, dau. of Christopher Stark and wife Rebecca Killian; I have a lot of Stark genealogy, way back to Aaron Stark. Rebeccas parents were Daniel and Mary (SMITH) KILLIAN; Id like to know more about the Killian line of my ancestory. Sterling COMBS parents were John and Delilah (APPLEGATE) COMBS Johns father was Lewis COMBS, and his mother Jane (SMITH) COMBS. I wish I knew who her parents were (Jane). Lewis Combs parents were John COMBS & wife Sarah (or Sally) (Mabry) COMBS.
Mary Fletchers parents were Edward & Lucinda Henrietta (BURNS) FLETCHER. I do not know who Lucindas parents were. If anyone can tell me, wont they please write me, thank you!
Isaphenas parents were Stephen (b. 1790, N.C.) & Bethenia (ROBERTSON) HOPPER; Stephen Hoppers parents were Thomas Jr. Hopper, son of Thomas Sr. and brother to Joseph who married Agnes Stephens, dau. of William Sr. STEPHENS. William Stephens Sr. with his family and Joseph Hopper migrated from Virginia to the wilds of Kentucky in the early years of 1790; there in Kentucky Joseph was married to the daughter of William STEPHENS Sr., Agnes. Joseph and Agnes Hoppers children were all born in Kentucky; one son, Clemon who became my second great-grandfather grew up and was married to Isaphena HOPPER in Kentucky, and there their children were born. One son ANDERSON Hopper grew to manhood, met and married Mary Fletcher, a comely, lovely maiden; and in Kentucky six of their 10 children were born, Milford being first.
Anderson Hopper and family with Clemon and some of his family migrated to Missouri, and finally made their homes in Mincy, Taney County, Mo.
While there Milford met the beautiful daughter of Sterling, and Sarah COMBS; they were married 2 July 1876. Their son Clarence John became my father. In 1885 Anderson and his family, with Milford and his family migrated to the new territory of Idaho; there when my father was grown, he met and married Gladys SHERMAN who had come to Idaho when she was a small girl. My mother was a beautiful woman, and just as sweet, as she was pretty. Their children numbered thirteen, some born in Idaho, the rest born in Oregon; One child (BILLY) died while in Idaho... 13 months of age. All the rest of the children lived to be grown, married, and had children, who most of which are now married and have children of their own, even some of those are now married and have children. My mother passed away 3 Aug. 1957, my father died in 1961 in March, my brother Donald passed away 5 July 1961; Hollis passed away 24 Sep. 1968; Clinton Sherman died in Oct. 1970, on the 23rd. The rest of us are at present still living. There are only two of the 13 children of Milford and Maggie Hopper still living: Eva Kirk, and Harold Jerome HOPPER.
