Dec. 1 Prof. MERCER visited Normal School on Monday, and gave us one of his characteristic talks so full of the love of humanity and advise which, if followed, would better in many ways the conditions of mankind. We shall be glad to have Prof. MERCER, or any other of our patrons visit us at any time.

Dec. 13 Prof. MERCER is now smiling over the arrival of a fine baby girl, at his home one-half mile northeast of Ava, last Monday night. Mother and child are doing well.

Jan. 10 Prof. J. S. MERCER has been confined to his home for the past two months with severe attack of rheumatism. The Klondike Grocery is being successfully managed by his son, Pearl.
The smallpox hurts the merchants of Ava less than MERCERS prices.

May 29 PEARL MERCER treated patrons of his barbershop to an ice cream social Monday night. There was a large crowd.
July 10 Mrs. PEARL MERCER left last Sunday for Ongo, in west end of County, where she will teach for 6 months school.

Oct. 9 "Dude" MERCER returned home last Sat, from Kans., where he has been all summer, working on a farm.
Oct. 16 MRS. PEARL MERCER dismissed her school near Ongo last Fri. & returned home, because of smallpox among pupils.
PEARL MERCER returned Fri. from Guthrie, Okla. has been away 3 or 4 mo. working as a barber. He will take charge of his fathers store so that the Professor can take a much needed rest.

Nov. 27 PEARL MERCER went out to Beaumont, Kansas on Monday
R. P. MERCER went to Fordland on business.
May 7 1903 R. P. MERCER, one of leading school teachers in Ava, has secured the Brown Branch School for next winter ($40 mo. plus ½ of outside tuition) . PEARL is a nice gentlemanly fellow and will teach a good school at Brown Branch. This goes to show that good teachers always command good wages!
May 28 MRS. MINNIE MERCER will teach at Arden this year. She has taught several successful terms there.

July 23 J. S. MERCER had the misfortune to have his shelf on the south side of his store, fall and crush and destroy several dollars worth of goods. He is very busy straightening up and sorting out the different things.

Oct. 22 R. P. MERCER, principal of Brown Branch School, was in Ava visiting with his parents last Sat. & Sun. PEARL is one of Douglas Co’s best teachers, though he is teaching in Taney Co. this year.
Nov. 5 Our teacher, MINNIE MERCER, has a pie supper at School Thanksgiving eve.
Jan. 21 1904 On Saturday, DIAMOND MERCER, one of J. S. MERCERS little boys, was bitten by what was thought to be a mad dog. While Mr. MERCER and the boy were doing some cleaning up around their place just north of town, the dog approached the place where they were working, and as he did so the boy spoke to him and same time, holding out his hand towards the dog as if to pet him. (the dog continued on, attacking dogs & stock, until killed by Harvey Roper, on Bryant). They took him to Mansfield to a "madstone". Were told it had no appearance of a mad-dog bite.
Mar. 10 Richard Ritter (GAR) died. Lived 6 mi. E. of Ava. Buried Ava Cemetery. (Was probably the person from whom J. S. Mercer purchased his farm).
April 28 J. S. MERCER moved his stock of goods into his old stand on the south side of the Square, the first of the week. The building vacated by Mr. MERCER will be occupied by M. G. Reynolds & Co. as a warehouse.
May 19 1904 Mrs. J. S. MERCER, and 2 or 3 of the boys, and Ira Landers, left last Tues. for Marionville, Mo. where they go to pickstrawberries through the season. There is a large crop of berries in that section of the country this year and there is a great demand for berry pickers.

Mar. 27 1905 PEARL MERCER is in Ava for a visit. He is employed in a barber shop at Arkansas City, Kansas.
Apr. 6 Mr. and Mrs. MERCER'S little daughter, Opal, has been quite sick for the past few days.

June 1 "DUDE" MERCER has been at Arkansas City, Kansas, and has returned home. He brought back a "handsome" girl with him.
Feb. 27 1913 ARTHAL W. MCDANIEL married to MINNIE M. MERCER (both of Ava).
May 1 1913 J. S. MERCER was called to Ioway the latter part of last week to the bedside of his mother who is very sick.
May 1 1913 J. S. MERCER left last week for Kirksville, Mo. where he is visiting with his mother, the first time he has seen her in 34 years. She is near 100 years old (this is not correct).
May 21 1914 Mr. and Mrs. ARTHUR MCDANIEL are the proud parents of a fine baby boy, which made its arrival last Fri. All parties concerned are doing nicely.
Nov. 4 1915 ARTHUR MCDANIEL, who is teaching a successful term of school at Topaz, spent Sunday with his wife and babies at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. MERCER in Ava.
