Volume 6, Number 3 - Spring 1977

Zack Livingston's Predictions

The following article was copied from a microfilm copy of the April 24, 1919 issue of the newspaper, "The Douglas County Journal."

Zack Livingston of near Rockbridge was in Ava one day last week. Zack is in sawmill and timber business and is a timber man who knows what he is talking about. He says that in his country is some of the best white oak timber he ever saw anywhere. There are billions of feet of fine timber all over this country, and we are going to venture a prediction, that very shortly, northern and eastern capital is going to come this way and arrange for the removal of this vast amount of timber for the market of the commercial world.

(Editor’s Note: Could some of our readers supply a sawmill or lumber-hauling story? It was "big business" for a time. Bet some of you have some good pictures you could share with us.
