Volume 6, Number 5 - Fall 1977

Bits & Pieces

From Dr. Hardy A. Kemp of Kansas City comes a shot in the arm. His newsy notes and quips always turn up the corners of your mouth plus the promise of sending excerpts from the chapters in his forthcoming book "About Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon" for use in our quarterly. This quote, "Never let it be said that ‘Old Uncle Hardy Kemp’ ever let the mill run dry for want of the written word," contains encouraging words. He also expressed his pleasure and gratitude for the "Memorial Issue" honoring Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Mahnkey.

Help is needed with the following inquiries:

Congratulations to Stella Owen, mother of member Dr. Lyle Owen, who celebrated her 100th birthday on November 11. She was remembered by the Society with a card. Boulson of Marshfield will have articles in a forthcoming issue.

(Members, tell your friends named Welch about this offer. And how about some copy for the quarterly, sir?)

On November 9, 1977, President Fletcher received a letter of resignation from The W.R.V.H.S.Quarterly editor, Cinita Brown. To keep from skipping an issue (which jeopardizes our mailing permit) your secretary, with lots of help from Marie Wilkins and Emma Farrell of The S of O Press staff, has put together a quarterly. So, continue to research, write and send copy we need everyline!
