Meeting-Place-Date-Time-Invocation
The Seventeenth Annual Meeting of the White River Historical Society was called to order by President Helen J. H. Fletcher at 1:15 p.m. in the Good Memorial College Center Cafeteria on June11, 1978. The invocation was given by Dr. Alice Nightingale.
Greetings and Introductions
Three guests were welcomed and introduced: Herbert Templeton of Ava, Mrs. Ada Harris of Chadwick, and Dr. Dorothy Leake of Aurora. Betty Burgess of Kansas City, KS, a long-time member and daughter of Lucille Brown, was introduced as attending her first meeting. Forty members and guests signed the attendance register which was in charge of Esther Beveridge.
Minutes
Minutes of the March 12 meeting were approved as printed.
Correspondence
Correspondence was the showing of the new magazine "American Preservation - the Magazine for Historic and Neighborhood Preservation" published bimonthly at Little Rock, AR.
Treasurers Report
Treasurers report stated a bank balance of $243. All bills paid.
Annual Reports
Annual reports were given by the Secretary-Treasurer and the Library, Museum and Historic Sites Chairman, and the President.
Election
Following a second reading of the Nominating Committees report officers elected were: President - Lucille A. Brown of Hermitage, Vice president - William L. Wood of Strafford, Secretary-Treasurer - Ionamae Rebenstorf of Hollister, and Historian - Elmo Ingenthron of Kirbyville. County Directors: 1978-81 Ozark County, Ruby Robins of Gainesville; Taney County, Allen Pleake of Hollister; Marion County, AR., Mrs. L. D. Burnes of Yellville; 1977-80 Barry County, Mrs. Loren Roden of Cassville; and Greene County, Fay Robb of Springfield.
Program
Leonard J. Williams, Stone County Director, presented the program. He introduced Mrs. Williams, who sang an early folk song "Folly Ballad." On display were some Civil War relics which were: a corn knife made into a weapon, pickets, buttons and bullets (mini balls and grape shot) - all found on the Williams farm. His talk was based on the book "The Story of a Great Work" by Sallie H. Porter, which is a true story of the Religious Pioneers of Stone County.
Installation and Gift of Gavel
Newly elected officers were installed by President Fletcher. The gavel she handed to the new president was a gift to the Society to be used at each meeting and remain with the Societys properties.
Acceptance and Appointments
Mrs. Brown challenged each member to get new members with the motto "IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME" and announced the following appointments: Editor, Ruth Asher; Library, Mrs. Lee Brown; Museum, Ralph Lucas; Publicity, Marvin Tong; Historic Sites, Elmo Ingrenthon; and Nominating. Esther Beveridge.
Announcement
September 10 was announced as the next meeting date.

Meeting adjourned 3:10 p.m.
