Minutes of September 9, 1979 Meeting

MEETING-DATE-TIME-PLACE-INVOCATION
The White River Valley Historical Society held its regular quarterly meeting in The School of the Ozarks College Center Cafeteria on September 9. President Lucille A. Brown convened the meeting at 1:15. Henrietta Hall gave the invocation.

WELCOME
President Brown welcomed the fifty-three members and guests present. New members and visitors were introduced.

MINUTES AND TREASURER’S REPORT
Minutes of the annual meeting of June 10 were read and approved as printed. A balance of $1,819.16 was reported by the Treasurer.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
The Secretary’s report disclosed the following statistics:
Present paid memberships -- 229
New members since June 10 -- 45. A note of welcome and a copy of the Constitution and Bylaws was sent to each new member.
Twenty-three copies of the Topical Index, prepared by Vera Wood, were xeroxed and mailed.
Filled orders and mailed $144. worth of back issues of the quarterly. This amount included postage paid by the purchaser.
Submitted news item for publication in The State Historical Society Review.

CORRESPONDENCE
An invitation to the annual meeting of The State Historical Society of Missouri on October 6, in Columbia, was read.

EDITOR
Quarterly Editor, Ruth Asher, requested material for publication in the magazine.

INVITATION
Mr. William Rensing, sculptor, told about his project-- life-size figures of The Last Supper, and invited the society to attend an open house on September 16.

PROGRAM
"Outlaw for My Neighbor--The Jake Fleagle Story" was presented by members Kathleen Van Buskirk, Edith McCall, Bob Lake and Ralph Lucas. Mrs. Van Buskirk, program chairman, compiled this history from newspaper accounts and personal interviews of area old-timers

ANNOUNCEMENTS
It was announced that xeroxed copies of the Topical Index were for sale for $1.00 from the Secretary. Next meeting is scheduled for December 9.
