Minutes of March 14, 1982 Meeting

Meeting-Date-Time-Place-Attendance
The regular quarterly meeting of the White River Valley Historical Society was called to order by President Fred Hartman at 1:25 p.m. on March 14, 1982 in the Good Memorial College Center Cafeteria at The School of the Ozarks. Following the invocation fifty-five members and guests introduced themselves.

Minutes
Minutes of the December 13 meeting were approved as printed.

Treasurer s Report
Bank balance reported by the Treasurer was $2586.03.

Secretary’s report
Present membership is 283
Handled business necessary to conduct Essay Contest
Answered an average of five queries per week during the last quarter which required many hours of research.
Sent notices of this meeting to 14 area newspapers and 2 radio stations.

Editor’s Remarks
Articles, cemetery records, and other items will have to be contributed to keep publishing the quarterly was the request of the Editor. Deadline for next issue is April 20.

Historical Books
A gift of five historical books have been given the Secretary and they have been loaned to the Society. Volunteers for indexing are needed.

Nominating Committee Report
First reading of the Nominating Committee’s report was read by Chairman R. C. Weaver. Other members of the committee were Esther Beveridge and Pauline Boss.

Contest Winners
Winners of the Historical Essay Contest were present to read their essays and receive their awards:
3rd - Cathy Cooper of Forsyth High School - $5.00
2nd - Neil Frost of Glendale High School, Springfield - $10.00
1st - Sherri Sanders of Glendale High School, Spfd. - $15.00

Program
Viola Hartman introduced new member Artie Ayres, who spoke about the research he has made on the "Yocum Silver Dollars and Mine -Fact or Legend".

Announcement
The president announced the next meeting date will be June 13.

Adjournment
Meeting adjourned 3:20 p.m.
