Leota (Houser) Dufur, 12595 Williams Highway. Grants Pass, OR 97526 would like to know whether anyone knows anything about the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph L. Henry and his wife, Martha Miller. He was known as "Old Uncle Joe Henry" in Stone County, and was a character and quite eccentric. I have most of his children and their spouses, but have been unable to locate his parents. He was born about 1834-38 in Tennessee. I don’t know the County. He and his wife were in Missouri in the early 1850’s. His mother was American Indian (Cherokee, I’ve been told). I know nothing of her parents. Uncle Joe died in Stone County in 1918 and Martha much earlier.

Ralph Lucas, Museum Chairman of W.R.V.H.S., sends word that Ralph Foster Museum now has a complete set of National Geographic Magazine from 1915 to the present - a total of 66 years. This leaves the period of 1888 through 1914 (27 years) still needed. If anyone has any-of these copies, please send them to the Society Office or Mr. Lucas.

Editor's note: This is much a worthwhile project- let’s be on the lookout for these issues and participate. Remember, magazine’s present value is tax deductible.

Congratulations to Paul Johns, Nixa, on the recent write-up in the Springfield Daily News about him and his book, "Unto These Hills: True Tales from the -Ozarks." I’m sure members remember reading his article in Vol. 7, No. 5 of our quarterly on "One-Room Schools and Canning Factories. Although the story didn’t say so, both John and his wife, Gina are members of our society.
