Minutes of Summer Meeting
September 12, 1982

Meeting - Invocation - Attendance
President Fred Hartman convened the quarterly meeting of the WRVHS at 1:20 p.m. in the Good Memorial College Center Cafeteria on September 12. The invocation was given by Pauline Boss. Greetings were extended by the president and 44 members and guests introduced themselves.

Minutes & Treasurer's report
Minutes of the Annual Meeting on June 12 were approved as printed. A bank balance of $3,227.11 was reported by the treasurer.

Correspondence - Invitation
Correspondence included:
Invitation to attend the annual meeting of The State Historical Society of Missouri, Oct. 9, 1982.
Invitation to attend the Governor's Auction benefiting the Missouri Mansion Preservation, Inc. on September 25.

Genealogical Workshop
Information on the 2nd Annual Fall Workshop of the Ozarks Genealogical Society on October 30. Five of our members have already registered to go and the Society has reserved a display table.

Secretary’s Report
Secretary’s report stated that:
13 names were added to the roster this quarter.
Present paid membership is 201.
Membership is down over two previous years.
A display was designed and prepared for the window of the District Office of Continental Telephone Co. on B65 in Branson. Artie Ayres assisted in arranging the display in the window.

Swan Creek Application
Historic Sites Chairman Ayres read the application prepared by Viola and Lynn Morrow for placing the Swan Creek Bridge on the National Register of Historic Places with WRVHS as sponsoring organization.

President's Report
President Hartman told of his participation in several historic projects and mentioned the importance of the Quarterly to researchers.

Historical Essay Motion
Ruth Asher moved that the Historical Essay Contest for High School students be continued for a second year. Motion seconded & carried.

Census on Microfilm
A discussion was held on the purchase of census records on microfilm for counties in our area. Purchase was bypassed since the information is available in other places.

Subscription
James Powell moved that the Society subscribe to The 4-State Review, a new quarterly to be published. Motion seconded and carried.

Bible
The Bible that had been given to the Society was shown and was checked out to Betty Ingenthron for 3 months.

Constitutional & Bylaws Changes
Viola Hartman presented one change to the Constitution and one change to the Bylaws to be voted on at the December meeting.

Program
James Powell, program chairman, introduced Patrick D. Hiatte of Springfield, who is the Regional Public Relations Manager for the Burlington - Northern Railroad. His subject was "Early Railroading in the Ozarks".

Auction
James Horst purchased at auction for $10.00 the early copy of "The Shepherd of the Hills" book that was given the society.

Announcements
It was announced that the next meeting would be December 12.
Books and pictures on display would be for sale following the meeting.

Ajournment at 3:40 p.m.
