Volume 8, Number 10 - Winter 1985

From the New President

One day after Christmas I found a note in the mail box, "Package at office". A belated Christmas gift? Next day when the postal clerk handed me a parcel I wondered why Alan Schmitt was sending a package to me. I soon found out. The box contained the Presidency of the White River Valley Historical Society. My first thoughts were Help! How can I do this? I don’t know anything about how to run the Society. But after I had calmed down I realized as a volunteer of long standing there are people in every organization who are familiar with its operation, are interested in its success and are glad to share their knowledge. My qualification is simply that I am willing to take the job, and I look forward to your helping me learn the Society’s aims and what I can do to help us reach them.

We were very sorry to accept the resignation of Alan Schmitt as President of the Society. Unfortunately for medical reasons it was necessary for him to give up many of his responsibilities. We will miss the enthusiasm, knowledge, organization and conscientiousness he brought to the office. In my new position as President of the White River Valley Historical Society I will try to do my best to keep the Society moving forward and rolling along smoothly.

Corrections for Previous Issues

Dorothy Roden submits the following corrections:

In Volume 7 - Number 1 - page 14 the name listed as McWise should be Stephen Mack Wise. This was her great grandfather on her mother’s side;

In Volume 7 - Number 5 - page 19 the name listed as Matilda Fulton should be Matilda Culton. This was a 4th marriage and she was my great, great grandmother on the Ellis side;

In Volume 7 - Number 11 - page 14 the name listed as McCray should be M. C. Gray (Melvin Calmore). This couple were the parents of one of my aunts.
